Architecture creates sensation. I translate it with images
Deschutes Public Library
Architecture designed by The Miller Hull Partnership.
Central Library, Bend, Oregon. 2026
This series looks at the building through its structural rhythm — mass timber framing, light moving across the staircase through the day, and the presence of Grade’s sculpture above the main floor. Working in Hasselblad medium format, I paired wide architectural views with closer, quieter moments inside the space: a reader by the window, a figure at the base of the stairs.
Public libraries remain one of the few civic spaces built for people to simply stay a while. This project follows that idea through the architecture itself — a building shaped as much by light and gathering as by its collection.
