Architecture creates sensation. I translate it with images

Bonnie Bar and Club
Architecture designed by David Chipperfield. Interior Designer by Jordane Arrivetz. Paris, France. 2025

Fifteen floors above the Seine, Paris spreads out in every direction, from Notre-Dame to the dome of the Panthéon.

Bonnie sits at the top of SO/ Paris, in the former Morland administrative building, which David Chipperfield Architects turned into a mixed-use landmark on the edge of the Marais. Across its two floors, designer Jordane Arrivetz of Notoire drew on 1960s futurism and played with opposites: gloss against texture, straight lines against curves, cold steel against warm leather. Mirrored ceilings and glass walls catch the city and the sky, so the room and the view keep folding into each other.

I photographed it at dusk, when the city’s last light meets the bar’s glow. As the sun goes down, reflections layer the interior over the skyline, and for a while it’s hard to tell where the building ends and Paris begins.

The space comes alive as the evening goes on, moving from restaurant to bar to club. To me, it shows how architecture can frame a city and also give it back to us, transformed.
